Smart Work Hubs are coming to Western Sydney, allowing commuters to work in alternative locations closer to home. The NSW Government is providing $1.5 million to pilot three hubs in the Rouse Hill Town Centre, Oran Park Town and Penrith CBD. The hubs will offer commuters in Western Sydney an opportunity for teleworking in an alternate space to their offices or homes.
The hubs will offer a wide range of facilities for corporate clients or casual users, including: fast broadband Wi-Fi, video conferencing, meeting spaces, kitchens and onsite IT support. Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Stoner said about 33% of workers living in Western Sydney commuted outside the region for work. “Anyone who has had to fight their way through peak hour traffic, or experienced long commutes to get to their work place, should be excited by the huge potential of this initiative,” Mr Stoner said.
The hubs will be running by the end of 2014 and operate for a minimum of 12 months. During this time, the government will collect data and feedback on the pilots to better understand user demand, successful operating models and the benefits for business and the NSW economy.
